Japanese value focus may benefit from market dynamics
Schroder Japan Growth* aims to achieve capital growth from an actively managed portfolio of securities listed in Japan. The fund was launched in July 1994 and was previously managed by Andrew Rose from 1 November 2007 until his retirement in June 2019, when Masaki Taketsume assumed formal responsibility for the management of the portfolio. The fund has a relatively strong long-term performance record, delivering a NAV total return of +143% over the last ten years, which represents an outperformance of its benchmark, the TOPIX (+126%) but an underperformance of the Japan peer group (+222%). As shown in the table below, the fund has underperformed both its benchmark and peer group in recent years, although results have improved in recent months. The fund has a £250m market cap and the historical dividend yield currently stands at 2.4%.
