Encouraging results illustrate Frontier Market potential
BlackRock Frontiers Investment Trust* aims to achieve long-term capital growth by investing in companies listed or operating in less developed countries. Since April 2018, the fund’s benchmark has been a composite of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index ex Selected Countries + MSCI Frontier Markets Index + MSCI Saudi Arabia Index, which is regarded as a more accurate reflection of the investment universe than its previous benchmark, the MSCI Frontier Markets Index. The fund has been managed by Sam Vecht and Emily Fletcher since inception in December 2010. There is a commitment to offering shareholders an opportunity to realise the value of their shares at NAV less costs every five years. The latest opportunity was in February 2021, when 21.5% of shares in issue were tendered, with £62.6m returned to shareholders. Since launch, the fund has delivered a NAV total return of +116%, outperforming the +71% return of its chain-linked, composite benchmark, the +43% return of the MSCI Frontier Markets Index, the +65% return of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index and the +99% return of the broader Global Emerging Markets peer group. The fund has now outperformed its benchmark over the last one, three, five and ten years.
