Background: Scottish American Investment Company*, known as ‘SAINTS’, aims to deliver real growth in capital and income, as well as a high and dependable income stream. It does this principally by investing in global equities, with a smaller allocation to non-equity assets including bonds and property. James Dow of Baillie Gifford has been lead manager since August 2017, with Ross Mathison appointed as deputy manager in August 2023.
Portfolio: As at 31 December 2023, global equities accounted for 86% of the portfolio, with the remainder invested in infrastructure equities (3%), direct property (6%), bonds (4%) and cash (1%).
Performance: Since the appointment of James Dow as lead manager, the fund has generated a NAV total return of +93%, outperforming the FTSE All World Index (+90%), the Global Equity Income peer group (+74%) and its sister open-ended fund, Baillie Gifford Global Income Growth (+83%). SAINTS has also outperformed its benchmark over the last three and five years.
